Our bar is large enough to accommodate a ''guid crowd,'' yet remains intimate. Friendly bar staff will serve you from a wide range of drinks and refreshments.

The period pieces tucked away in the building include the original ceramic fuseboxes and the system for communication with the domestic staff. Proprietor Dennis Smith acquired the premises in 1990, converting the town house into a comfortable retreat for all manner of guests. Being close to Dundee''s two universities, The Shaftesbury attracts many visiting academics. Business visitors find the hotel is very convenient for the commercial sector of town too. Internationally renowned Ninewells Hospital and the Technology Park are also close by, and The Shaftesbury is within five minutes of arterial roads north and south. A wide selection of malt whiskies can be sampled in the Garden Bar. Our licence is restricted to residents and restaurant guests only, so you can be sure of a quiet, relaxing evening. The Garden Bar can be hired for meetings during daytime hours.

The Shaftesbury has established a reputation for the quality and variety of its food, cooked by chef Bill Morrison, who has worked with Dennis Smith for over 20 years. If you would like a dish that isn''t on the menu when you visit, chef will be happy to cook just for you! He especially loves cooking Scottish Game dishes.
