The Glencolmcille area is a Gaeltacht area rich in folklore and traditional music. One of the most scenic areas in Ireland the Sea-view Drive is outstanding. The area is rich in archeological sites with some of Ireland's finest examples of Portal Dolmens. The Folk Museum opened in 1967 is a monument to Fr. James McDyer who came to the village in 1952 and set about infusing the local people with a spirit of self-reliance and pride in their heritage. Steeped in culture tradition and language the Glencolmcille Museum depicts bygone lifestyles in South West Donegal through an interpretative centre craft shop team house school house sheeben and thatched cottages dating back to 1750 1850 1900. Among the items sold in the museum is an unusual kind of wine made from Fuchsias. Outside the village is Oideas Gael a popular summer school for adults interested in studying the Irish Language or participating in cultural activity holidays such as hillwalking set dancing weaving archaeology or bodhran playing.
