Killybegs is an excellent place to base yourself when touring the south west of Donegal. A lively fishing town with Ireland's largest fleet of trawlers. Watch the fishermen landing their Silver Harvests on the pier and chat to the locals about their arduous but exciting way of life. Killybegs and the surrounding area has a large number of sites of archaeological and historical interest including the Neolithic Tombs and many mass rocks dating back to the penal times of the 17th Century. In 1999 the Croaghlin Mass rock was restored and made easily accessible to the public. This was one of the Millennium projects undertaken by the local community. Excellent nightlife with traditional music and restaurants. Slieve League in Southwest Donegal is Europe's highest seacliff and can be accessed via Bunglass carpark 4km west of Teelin. Killybegs is also renowned for its Sea Angling the sheltered waters of Donegal Bay permit angling in all but the very worst of weather conditions whilst the lack of a strong tide allows for the use of light tackle. Local boats are available for charter throughout the year the angler can fish for the twenty or so different species which thrive in these waters.
