St Ives is one of the most delightful of river towns and has been welcoming visitors for more than a thousand years. There can be few places able to offer such a variety of features to both residents and visitors as this pretty market town, which provides excellent facilities and events in a stunning location on the north bank of the River Great Ouse. Although rapid growth has taken place, the centre of St Ives still retains its character as a country market town. Designated as a Conservation Area in 1972, it is a pleasant environment for the pedestrian to wander through, admiring some of the 170 properties listed as being of Special Architectural or Historic Interest.
