* The Gala - purpose-built, 500-seat auditorium with perfect acoustics. Seating is removable to provide a flat space for banquet, exhibitions etc. Also available: Giant screen cinema seating over 100 - excellent for smaller lectures and conferences.

* The University of Durham can host a full range of events, from meetings for 10 to residential conferences for several hundred delegates. Venues range from the historic University College in Durham Castle, to the modern Van Mildert College in a beautiful landscaped, lakeside setting. Accommodation is generally available during the vacation (July-Sept) 3,000 single rooms (600 ensuite) over 450 twin rooms (100 ensuite). 60 beds are available all year.

* The Royal County (Marriott) and Three Tuns (Swallow) are among the first class hotels in the City Centre and the Ramside Hotel at Carrville boasts a 27-hole golf course.

* Cricket, football and rugby clubs have attractive, riverside facilities for hire. Durham Country Cricket Club at Chester-le-Street has great facilities and occupies a magnificent setting within sight of Lumley Castle Hotel.
